- Psalm 92:1 ("It is good to give thanks to the Lord")
Go over the previous hours once more letting every detail pass by like an inner film - and give thanks for what was good, what was possible and what enriched you or whatever else you are thankful for...As a suggestion for transfer to your own life I quote the beginning of a prayer from:
Thank you, Lord, Thank you! Thanks for all the gifts you have offered me today, Thanks for all that I have seen, heard and received; Thanks for the water that awakened me, for the soap that smelled so good, for the refreshing toothpaste. Thanks for the clothes which cover me, for their colors and their fashion... Thanks for the garbage truck and the workers that accompany it, for their morning call and the noise of the awakening street. Thanks for my work, my tools, my energy...etc.
(Michael Quoist)
Martin Luther: "I believe, that God has created me... etc." (Explanation of Article Two of the Apostles Creed)
Luke 17: 11-19 (The thankful Samaritan) Apply these stories to your daily life...
Prayer of loving awareness: In the course of the day between major work periods pause and take a few minutes for yourself. Conscious that you are standing before God, look back on the previous work and touch it once more, so to speak, just as blind people feel the raised print of a Braille text with their sensitive finger tips. Feel what has been raised up as positive for which you can give thanks and linger with that a little while. Look again at the work lying ahead and thoughtfully experience also here reasons to give thanks...Comment:
When different possibilities are offered in the exercises this week for the "prayer of loving awareness" that occurs so each person can explore for themselves what is helpful. For whomever this prayer is important they will certainly find additional possibilities themselves
