WEEK
10 - Day 5
Fullness of life
to which Jesus calls his followers
Introduction
In
connection with the call of Jesus the New Testament does not use the word
"following" but only the verb "to follow". This can be understood in a
literal as well as in a spiritual sense . It always means going the way
of Jesus, because the way of Jesus is already ahead of us. In "going
with", "coming after", "to follow" (in the literal as well as the symbolic
sense) the disciple of Jesus grows into Jesus' inner posture. The
more this inner posture becomes our own the easier it becomes in new situations
one encounters to behave in "the way Jesus would have done in this situation".
To follow does not mean to imitate, but to "tune
in" our situation with the deepest concerns of Jesus (cf. concerning
Christian decision making).
