WEEK
11 (Option 2) - Day 2
Training ground
for living in the presence of God
Introduction
Theoretically
we know that God is always present and that everything we do happens under
God's "gaze" (a symbol word for a reality that is not able to be
grasped). However, it is a long way from theoretically knowing to
"feeling" the presence of God all the time just as we are mindful of the
presence of another person in a dark room. In former times monks
practiced this attitude. Wherever they were they felt the "gaze"
of God resting on them. Whatever they did was consciously done in the presence
of God. With that they established guidelines pointing the way that
is important for the Christian life today.
Exercice
-
Genesis 16:13 ("Thou art a God of seeing")
Variation
-
Psalm 139:1-6 ( "Thou dost beset me behind and before")
Preparatory
meditation
In
a short "preparatory meditation" either in the morning in connection with
a time of prayer or during reflection in the course of the day, undertake
what lies before you with this consciousness:
„An
eye looks down on us,
has
all our life in sight.
sees
all we do with eyes of love
from
early morn 'til night.“
What takes
place in the preparatory meditation calmly let happen in your work.
