"Able to live" means that we not only know theoretically about our sinful nature (that has been said often enough), but that we are no longer terrified in the depths of our heart when an abyss in ourselves opens suddenly which we had not suspected beforehand. We can then say soberly: "Aha, so we're that too; are we" - without despairing and without having to suppress immediately these experiences because our pride will not allow such an admission. Then we can bear it more easily when other people call attention to our failures and darkness, even when there is new pain again. For then we experience how good it is when the hidden darkness is brought into the healing light.
