WEEK 4 - Day 1
Sensing how God's love touches us

Exercice
- Read I Kings 19:11-13 (The "still small voice")

- Generally it is not through the powerful experiences of "volcanic eruptions," "earthquakes" and "mighty winds" that God touches our lives, but rather through a "delicate, soft murmur" (Jerusalem Bible)...

- Meditate on when or how you have experienced this in your life and continue pondering that until these experiences come alive for you again...

Variation
- Michelangelo - "Creation of Adam"  (meditation on picture)

This picture is taken from the powerful works of Michaelangelo, a fresco found in the Cistine Chapel in Rome.  It shows the outstretched hand of God almost touching the hand of Adam, the first human being.  The figure of God, presented as "Father", stretches out in an intense, empowering movement toward the human being who in turn reaches out to be touched by God.  Just as the inner movement of God toward the human is expressed by God's hand, so the human being's relaxed openness for God is expressed in the hand of Adam.  To the one created in God's own "image" (Gen. 1:27) God says "thou".

- Suggestions for meditation on the picture:

God's original intention was for our creation "in God's image"...the finger of God touches us without touching us...God touches our deepest, most sacred yearnings...We desire to open ourselves to this touch...  We desire to experience God's touch that bridges the deep abyss that separates us from God, as "earth" from "heaven". . through the touch, through the life that streams toward us as God intended . . so we are filled with God's own life... .
