What is meant here can hardly be expressed in words.  Even the very best icon is only a hint of that which lies far beyond the picture and hidden within the mystery of God.  Nevertheless, Christians in the Eastern Church say that the icon is like a "corridor" that grants us passage to the inaccessible.

Here meditation can turn into prayer without words and into worship of the unfathomable mysteries of God...
